Domaine des Vieilles Caves - Chénas
One of the smallest of the ten designated Crus of Beaujolais, the tiny appellation of Saint-Amour takes its name from a Roman soldier named Amor who converted to Christianity and settled in the Saône valley in the early Middle Ages. While the primary work of the renowned Janodet family is centered around their Domaine Les Fines Graves in nearby Moulin-à-Vent, Jérôme Janodet also owns a neighboring property, the Domaine des Vieilles Caves, in the village of Chénas. Located between the towns of Belleville and Mâcon, the domaine’s cellar dates back to 1840. Following environmentally friendly viticulture and traditional winemaking techniques, Jérôme Janodet makes a sumptuous Saint-Amour wine from a small plot of 75- to 100-year-old Gamay vines once owned by his grandfather. A mere 200 cases are made each year.
