Château Monplaisir - Castillon
The small 6.5 hectare estate of Château Monplaisir lies on the clay and limestone slopes of the Côtes de Castillon, just east of St. Emilion in Bordeaux’s Right Bank. The Côtes de Castillon, one of the 5 Bordeaux Côtes, has developed a solid reputation for producing wines of great quality and value. While the vineyards planted on the flat part of the region produce wines of more average quality, the wines produced from the slopes can be a revelation.
The blend of Ch. Monplaisir is 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Vinification is done with whole berries during a cuvaison of 30 days. Aging is in concrete vats for 6 to 12 months. A fragrant, medium-bodied wine, the nose is redolent of fresh red fruits, while the palate is round and supple with ripe tannins and a fine, persistent finish. The fruit lasts from start to finish. The estate has been certified organic for over 20 years and is also certified biodynamic by Demeter.
Ch. Monplaisir is as enjoyable with Korean barbeque and pasta bolognese as it is with a classic bistro fare.
